[US-Iran War] US Urges Israel: "Do Not Launch Further Attacks on Iranian Oil Facilities"
Axios and Israeli Local Media Cite Sources Familiar with the Matter
U.S. Disappointed by Israel’s Strikes on 30 Iranian Oil Facilities
Axios reported on March 10 (local time), citing three sources familiar with the matter, that the Donald Trump administration in the United States has requested Israel to refrain from attacking oil and energy facilities in Iran.
An Israeli official told Axios that this message from the Trump administration was conveyed to senior politicians and to Eyal Zamir, Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Israel’s Channel 12 also reported the same information on the same day, citing sources.
The Trump administration reportedly made this request for several reasons: to prevent harm to Iranian civilians; due to plans for postwar cooperation with the Iranian regime in sectors such as oil and energy; and because such attacks could trigger large-scale retaliation against energy infrastructure in the Gulf region. Each of these reasons was cited independently.
Axios explained that this is the first case since the outbreak of the war, which began with the Israeli airstrikes on Iran on February 28, in which the United States has attempted to curb Israel’s escalation.
Earlier, on the weekend of the 7th, Israel carried out airstrikes on 30 Iranian fuel facilities. At that time, the United States expressed strong disappointment, according to Axios, which cited sources in a report on March 8. This was seen as the first point of policy divergence between the two countries since the start of the war. Although the United States had been notified of the operation in advance, the actual scale of the airstrikes was reported to be far broader than what the U.S. had anticipated.

Even Lindsey Graham, a Republican senator from South Carolina and a supporter of the war, commented on his social networking service X (formerly Twitter), urging caution in choosing targets and emphasizing that “oil is essential” in the process of rebuilding the country after a potential collapse of the Iranian regime.
