Chungnam Expects Positive Impact on the Regional Economy
The establishment project for the "Marine Police Human Resources Development Institute," a specialized training institution for the Korea Coast Guard, is set to move forward in Dangjin, Chungnam.
This project, with a total budget of 183.7 billion won, has passed its first milestone by being selected as a target for the government’s preliminary feasibility study. If it passes the study, construction is expected to begin in 2028 with completion targeted for 2030.
On March 11, the Chungnam Provincial Government announced that the Marine Police Human Resources Development Institute establishment project was selected as a target for the preliminary feasibility study at the 3rd Fiscal Project Evaluation Committee of the Ministry of Economy and Finance for 2026.
The Marine Police Human Resources Development Institute is an in-service training institution responsible for providing specialized education necessary for Korea Coast Guard duties, including patrol, safety, and investigation.
The project will create educational facilities—including offices, dormitories, lecture halls, and training buildings—on a 194,817 square meter site in Hapdeok-eup, Dangjin-si, with a total investment of 183.7 billion won.
If the project passes the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s preliminary feasibility study, construction will begin in 2028 and is scheduled for completion in 2030.
When the Marine Police Human Resources Development Institute opens, a total of 181 staff, including 65 professors and 116 administrative personnel, will be responsible for operations. The annual training capacity is expected to reach approximately 17,000 people.
The Korea Coast Guard conducted a nationwide competition in 2022 to select a site for the institute and finalized Dangjin-si as the location in September 2023.
The Chungnam Provincial Government expects that attracting the Marine Police training institution will not only strengthen marine safety capabilities but also help revitalize the regional economy and promote balanced development.
