Next-Generation Battery Cooperation Discussed... Korea-Germany Forum to Be Held at COEX
Sharing Technologies Across the Entire Industry Life Cycle:
Materials, Processes, All-Solid-State, and Recycling
The Korea Battery Industry Association and Fraunhofer will hold a Korea-Germany joint forum to strengthen cooperation in the next-generation battery industry.
The Korea Battery Industry Association and Fraunhofer announced that they will jointly host the "2026 Korea-Germany Battery Forum" at 9:30 a.m. on March 12 at COEX in Seoul. This event will be held in conjunction with InterBattery, the largest battery exhibition in Korea.
The forum has been organized to discuss cooperation methods between the two countries across the entire next-generation battery value chain. The goal is to share the current status of research and development (R&D) throughout the battery industry life cycle, including materials, processes, next-generation batteries, reuse, and recycling, as well as to strengthen cooperation networks between the industry and research institutes.
Key representatives from major German organizations, including the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and Fraunhofer, will visit Korea to participate in the event. On the Korean side, officials from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, POSCO Holdings, SungEel HiTech, and Poen, as well as academics and representatives from other battery-related companies, will attend to discuss technology exchange and cooperation strategies.
The forum will begin with a keynote speech, followed by presentations and discussions on a variety of topics, including: R&D policy support strategies and environmental response technologies for the battery industry; material and eco-friendly process technologies; directions for next-generation battery development; and technologies for reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling.
The Korean side will present R&D policy directions and industry support strategies to enhance the competitiveness of the battery industry. The German side will share various approaches to securing environmental and economic sustainability, including next-generation material technologies, innovations in manufacturing processes, and recycling technologies, with a focus on sustainability across the battery value chain.
In particular, in the area of processes, presentations will cover next-generation battery manufacturing process technologies such as dry electrode process technology, which is based on reducing carbon emissions and improving manufacturing efficiency.
In the field of materials, the global chemical company BASF will introduce its development strategy for next-generation battery materials. Fraunhofer will present on solid and semi-solid composite electrolytes and alkali-sulfur battery technologies, while Professor Kang Byungwoo from Pohang University of Science and Technology will introduce technology for low-cost, element-based, high-energy-density all-solid-state batteries.
In the field of batteries after use, SungEel HiTech, POSCO Holdings, and Poen will participate to present on industrial pre-processing systems and core raw material recovery technologies to respond to the expected increase in end-of-life batteries, as well as recycling and remanufacturing technologies for establishing a circular economy for electric vehicle batteries.
This forum is expected to serve as a platform for companies, research institutes, and policy officials to explore opportunities for R&D collaboration and to build business networks for the promotion of joint projects. Not only will technical exchanges between companies from both countries be discussed, but also various cooperation models such as the expansion of joint research between research institutes.
