The National Assembly Hydrogen Economy Forum, a parliamentary research group for vitalizing the hydrogen economy (Co-Chairs: Lee Jongbae and Jung Taeho; Research Lead Assembly Members: Lee Jeongmoon, Ahn Hoyoung, Kim Yongtae, and Kim Sohee), will hold a policy discussion session titled "Policy Directions for the Sustained and Expanded Private Investment in the Hydrogen Economy" at 10:00 AM on March 11 in the 2nd Small Conference Room of the National Assembly Members' Office Building. The event is hosted by the National Assembly Hydrogen Economy Forum and organized by the Korea Hydrogen Alliance.
This discussion session has been planned to review current issues such as laws, systems, and regulatory improvements needed to expand large-scale and long-term private investment in the hydrogen sector, at a time when the need for a hydrogen economy is being highlighted for achieving carbon neutrality. The event also aims to seek ways to expand investment through consistent government policy support.
Under the common theme of "Why Expand Private Investment in the Hydrogen Economy Now?", four companies will present: Ki Seok Jung, Executive Director of Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group; Seungjun Lee, Executive Director of Doosan Fuel Cell; In Ah Lee, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor Company; and Inchul Hong, Group Leader at POSCO Holdings.
Following the presentations, a comprehensive panel discussion will be held on the topic of "Policy Proposals for Sustained and Expanded Private Investment in the Hydrogen Economy."
The panel discussion will be chaired by Hyuksoo Kwon, President of the Energy Industry Promotion Agency, and will feature experts including Deokyeol Park, Director of the Hydrogen and Heat Industry Policy Division at the Ministry of Climate and Energy and Environment; Nogyung Kim, Head of the Carbon Reduction Certification Center at the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Jaehoon Lee, Secretary-General of the Korea Clean Hydrogen Promotion Institute; Sangwoo Ban, Head of Division at Mirae Asset Securities; and Woochul Kim, Professor at the University of Seoul. They are expected to share a range of perspectives.
Co-Chair Lee Jongbae stated, "Hydrogen, no less than renewable energy, is a core energy source for achieving carbon neutrality. At the early stage of the industry, policy consistency and predictability are more important than anything else," adding, "The forum will thoroughly review the issues raised at this session to ensure that long-term private investment can translate into strengthened national competitiveness, and we will do our utmost to establish a solid foundation for the industry's growth."
