Hwasun County Opens Haneum Indoor Gymnasium Year-Round, Boosting Facility Usage Among Residents
Lowering Barriers for Beginners with Free Pickleball Equipment Rentals
Hwasun County in South Jeolla Province announced on March 9 that it is promoting measures to revitalize operations at the Haneum Indoor Gymnasium, which has been open to the public since February, in order to increase facility usage rates among residents and enhance the utilization of public sports facilities.
Currently, the Haneum Indoor Gymnasium is open to residents during weekday evenings and on weekends, focusing on basketball and pickleball. The county is prioritizing efforts to lower the barrier to entry for newcomers, so that more residents can participate in sports activities without burden.
To further promote pickleball, which has a relatively low booking rate, the county plans to provide free on-site rentals of dedicated rackets (paddles) and balls. Pickleball is a recreational sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, making it easy for people of all ages to enjoy, but the need for specialized equipment can be a barrier.
With this equipment support, the county aims to create an environment where anyone can conveniently use the facilities without any preparation.
The usage fees are also set at reasonable rates. For the general public, the facility fee is 1,200 won per session (2 hours), and for groups of 20 or more, it is set at 1,000 won per person, making the gymnasium a space utilized not only by individuals but also by clubs and workplace groups.
Operating hours are from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekends and public holidays, with each session running for two hours. Residents wishing to use the facility are required to make a reservation in advance by phone or in person.
