"I Want to Raise Ducks Too, What a Windfall"... Gold Discovered in Duck’s Stomach Shocks Many
Gold Particles Found in Duck's Stomach
Weighs About 10 Grams... Goes Viral on Social Media
A man in China became a topic of interest after discovering a gold nugget in the stomach of a duck he was slaughtering and cleaning. The river area where the duck was raised is known to have been a site of gold mining in the past.
On March 5 (local time), the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported, "A man named Liu from Hunan Province in central China discovered gold particles in the stomach of a duck while slaughtering it."

Liu explained that the ducks were raised by free-range methods near a river known for past gold mining activities. He suggested that the ducks may have swallowed mud containing gold particles while eating soil.
Gold cannot be digested or absorbed by the bodies of humans or animals. If ingested, it generally passes through the digestive tract and is excreted. However, in the case of large gold nuggets or those mixed with impurities, it is known that there is a potential risk of intestinal obstruction or poisoning for both animals and humans.
This is not the first time a gold nugget has been found in the body of a duck from this region. There have been previous reports of gold discovered in ducks. However, it is said that it is rare for such a large amount to be found, as was the case with Liu.
Some social media users have debated the authenticity of this case. In response, the Natural Resources Bureau of Longhui County told Chinese media outlet Jiupai News that further verification is needed to determine whether the particles are truly gold, but added that such an occurrence is not impossible. The bureau also explained that last year, residents found more than 10 grams of gold while washing sand in the same river.
SCMP reported, "The Qianshui River, which flows through Longhui County, is a north-south river where gold was discovered in the past," adding, "From the 1970s to the 1990s, there was a gold mining craze along this river, but afterward, the government banned private mining." According to Chinese law, all underground resources, minerals, and cultural assets are state property.
However, the authorities stated that it is not easy to determine the ownership of the gold found in the duck.
