Fire Captain Sung Chi-in of Goyang Fire Station, who died in the line of duty while fighting a fire, was posthumously awarded the Green Stripes Order of Service Merit and was given a special promotion by one rank to Senior Fire Captain.
According to Gyeonggi Province on March 4, the late Fire Captain Sung Chi-in was the leader of Team 1 at Haengsin Safety Center of Goyang Fire Station. On November 24, 2025, he was found in cardiac arrest at the scene while responding to a fire at an auto repair shop in Deogyang District, Goyang City. After receiving inpatient treatment for more than three months at Myeongji Hospital in Goyang, he passed away in the line of duty on March 3, 2026.
In recognition of his meritorious service, Gyeonggi Province recommended a special promotion by one rank and the conferment of a medal. On March 4, 2026, the government appointed the late Sung Chi-in as Senior Fire Captain and posthumously awarded him the Green Stripes Order of Service Merit.
