CJ Cultural Foundation to Release Anthology of Short Films by New Directors in Theaters and on OTT View original image

The CJ Cultural Foundation will bring together six short films by new directors for theatrical release and distribution through online video services (OTT).

On March 5, the CJ Cultural Foundation announced that it is accepting applications for the short film production category of its 'Story Up' support program for emerging filmmakers through March 23.

The theme of the contest is "Touch." There are no genre restrictions; both scripts and existing work portfolios are eligible for submission. The CJ Cultural Foundation will first select twelve directors, each of whom will receive a planning and development grant of 1 million won and mentoring. Afterwards, six final directors will be chosen to receive a production grant of 20 million won and one-on-one mentoring from a current director who is a member of the Directors Guild of Korea. The foundation will also support the entire process of entering the market, from post-production work such as poster creation, English subtitles, and editing, to submitting the films to domestic and international film festivals.

The six completed short films will be presented to audiences as a single anthology. The aim is to expand opportunities so that works by new directors can reach a wider market.

A representative from the CJ Cultural Foundation commented, "We have adopted a new support method to promote the real growth of short film directors," adding, "We will further enhance our programs by listening to the voices of creators."
