Galaxy Buds4 Pro Recognizes Sirens and "What Did You Say?"... Enhanced Call Quality
Master Moon Introduces Sound Innovation Technology
"Expecting to Deliver the Best Audio Experience in Daily Life"
Automatically Lowers Volume During Conversations
The next-generation Bluetooth earbuds from Samsung Electronics, the Galaxy Buds4 Pro, feature a function that recognizes siren sounds from fire trucks or ambulances even while Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) mode is on. No matter how loud the music is, as soon as a siren is detected, ANC automatically turns off and switches to ambient sound mode. Similarly, when someone nearby speaks to the user and the user responds with "What did you say?", ANC turns off and the music volume is lowered.
Moon Hangil, Master at the Audio Group, MX Division of Samsung Electronics, said, "The Buds4 Pro have elevated both sound quality and ANC performance," adding, "We hope the product will blend naturally into customers' lives and deliver the best possible audio experience."
Master Moon made these remarks on February 26, 2026 (local time) in San Francisco, USA, while introducing the sound innovation technologies embedded in the Galaxy Buds4 Pro.
20% Larger Diaphragm... "Adopting the Most Efficient Woofer"
Inside the product are small speaker units, each playing a different role for sound output: a woofer for bass and a tweeter for treble. When all sounds are played through a single speaker, audio quality can become muddled or certain frequency ranges may weaken. However, the Buds4 Pro separates the woofer and tweeter physically, allowing them to play different musical roles like instruments in an orchestra and to produce optimal sound.
Additionally, by minimizing the bezel around the speaker, the effective diaphragm area has been expanded by 20% compared to the previous model. This results in delicate yet powerful sound, increasing immersion. Master Moon explained, "We have adopted the most efficient woofer ever by maximizing the diaphragm area while maintaining a compact size." He added, "With the application of this 'super wide bezel-less woofer,' both the overall ANC performance and sound quality have been enhanced."
Refined ANC Functionality with Ergonomic Data
To provide the best ANC functionality in the Buds4 Pro, Samsung Electronics began collaborating with the University of Michigan in the United States in 2024. The company selected the most appropriate design based on ergonomic data derived from more than 100 million ear shape samples worldwide and over 10,000 wear simulations. Master Moon said, "To ensure a stable fit, we started by researching the ears of many different races around the world," adding, "As a result, the Buds4 Pro are designed to provide the most natural and comfortable sound experience in any situation."
The Adaptive Equalizer function, which detects sound leakage depending on the user's fit or ear shape and compensates for sound quality, has extended its correction range up to 2kHz compared to the previous model.
In addition, artificial intelligence (AI) technology has been used to further enhance the product's ability to identify the user's intent and surrounding environment. One such feature is Siren Detection. When a siren sound above 85dB, such as from a fire truck or police car, is recognized, ANC is instantly turned off and switches to ambient sound mode, regardless of how loud the music is through ANC.
The product also includes a Voice Detection function. When the user attempts to have a conversation, this feature automatically lowers the music volume, turns off ANC, and switches to ambient sound mode. For instance, even if the user is listening to music with ANC enabled, when someone nearby speaks and the user responds with "What did you say?", ANC is automatically turned off and the product switches to ambient sound mode, enabling the conversation to proceed.
There is also a hidden feature that automatically adjusts the ANC intensity according to ambient noise. For example, in a quiet place like a library, the ANC intensity is lowered to minimize pressure, while in a noisy environment such as on the street, ANC intensity is automatically increased.
Improved Call Quality Using Deep Learning AI Models
AI technology has also been applied to call quality. In particular, achieving natural and clear digital sound quality even in noisy environments has been the top priority.
Master Moon emphasized, "While maintaining the previous model's background noise reduction performance, we have further refined consonant clarity, word ending processing, and speech boundaries, and strengthened the preservation of high-frequency vocals."
He also said, "By utilizing deep learning AI models to recognize users' voice patterns, we have made it possible to maintain stable call quality regardless of the environment or activity."
During the Buds4 development process, data was directly collected from noisy locations such as cafes, roads, and train stations, and possible call scenarios were constructed. Based on this accumulated data, an acceleration signal algorithm was developed to effectively process noise and echo.
