Hongcheon County Holds 107th Anniversary March 1st Movement Ceremony
"Inheriting the Noble Spirit of Our Forebears"
On March 1, Hongcheon County in Gangwon Province held the '107th Anniversary of the March 1st Movement Ceremony' at Mugunghwa Park in Yeonbong-ri, Hongcheon-eup, honoring the noble spirit of independence demonstrated by the nation's forebears.

View original imageThe event took place in a solemn atmosphere, attended by a wide range of participants including Shin Youngjae, the mayor of Hongcheon County; Park Youngrok, the chairman of the Hongcheon County Council; leaders of various organizations and institutions; bereaved families; and military personnel.
The commemorative ceremony began with floral tributes and incense offerings by Mayor Shin Youngjae and major dignitaries, followed by a report on the progress of the March 1st Movement, a reading of the Declaration of Independence by Park Joosun, head of the Culture Center, a commemorative address by Mayor Shin Youngjae, the singing of the March 1st Movement song, and a threefold cheer of "Manse" led by Lee Seonggi, chairman of the Senior Citizens' Association. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to community unity by recreating the cheers that swept across the nation 107 years ago.
In his commemorative speech, Mayor Shin Youngjae expressed deep respect and gratitude, stating, "It is thanks to the noble sacrifice and dedication of our forebears that the Republic of Korea and our Hongcheon County exist today."

He went on to emphasize, "The core values of the March 1st Movement—self-reliance and the spirit of independence—are precious assets of our community that we must uphold today. I hope that by inheriting this spirit, all county residents will practice unity and solidarity, and, on this foundation, build an even safer and stronger local community."

At 11:30 a.m., the 'Dongchang Manse Movement Memorial Event' was held at Gimi Manse Park in Naechon-myeon, paying tribute to the heroes of Palryeolsa, while a memorial service organized by the Min family took place at the March 1st Movement Martyrs' Cemetery in Seongsu-ri, Yeongguimi-myeon, further heightening the atmosphere of remembrance.
