Jeju Governor Oh Younghun Rated in Bottom 20% Among Democratic Party Metropolitan Heads... "Immediate Objection"
Oh Younghun, Governor of Jeju Province from the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 25th that he had "received a notification of being in the bottom 20% among elected officials" in the party primary evaluation for running in the June 3 local election for Jeju Governor. Governor Oh plans to file an objection with the party.
At a press conference held at Jeju Provincial Government on the same day, Governor Oh said, "On my way back after completing the interview with the Democratic Party of Korea Nomination Management Committee yesterday, I was informed by the chair of the Nomination Management Committee that I was in the bottom 20% among elected officials." He added, "It appears that after the interview screening, they notified me based on the results of the evaluation of elected public officials conducted from late December last year to early January," and said, "I cannot accept that the efforts made together with public officials have been evaluated in this way."
He went on to say, "I will immediately file an objection with the party in accordance with the prescribed procedures," adding, "Once the objection is submitted, it is expected to go through a review by the Nomination Management Committee and a resolution by the Supreme Council."
When asked whether he would still run in the primary even if his objection is rejected, he replied, "I believe I must see it through to the end."
If a local government head falls into the bottom 20% in the evaluation, a 20% deduction is applied in both the nomination review and the primary.
When asked about the possibility of leaving the party if his objection is dismissed, he said, "Whatever the outcome, I will not immediately leave the party."
