It was then named, for the second consecutive year, as a promising shipping company at the Vision Proclamation Ceremony for the 15th Five-Year Development Plan of Shanghai Port held in Pudong, Shanghai.
Ningbo-Zhoushan Port is the world's third-largest port in terms of cargo throughput and selects its partners based on recent growth in cargo volume and development potential. As of 2024, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port handled 39.31 million TEU annually, ranking third in the world after Shanghai Port (51.51 million TEU) and Singapore Port (41.12 million TEU). The cargo volume handled by SM Line at this port exceeded 200,000 TEU for the first time last year.
SM Line first called at Ningbo Port in 2017 when it launched its US West Coast service (CPX), and has since expanded its services, including the addition of the Pacific Northwest service (PNS) the following year. The “promising shipping company” designation announced by Shanghai Port is awarded to partners expected to generate synergy in the process of advancing the logistics and transportation network. Leveraging this award, SM Line plans to step up efforts to attract export cargo from China bound for North America and other parts of Asia.
