"It Will Become a Landmark of Gwangmyeong"...On-site Meeting Held Ahead of Completion of the National Fire Museum
Aiming to Open Within This Year... Discussing Cooperation Measures
"Enhancing Its Completeness as a Complex Cultural Space"
The National Fire Agency held an on-site meeting on the 12th, ahead of the completion of the National Fire Museum building scheduled for the 20th.
The meeting was attended by Acting Commissioner General Kim Seungryong of the National Fire Agency, National Assembly Member Lim Ohkyung, Gwangmyeong Mayor Park Seungwon, and key officials, who inspected the final stage of the construction work, and discussed operational preparation plans for a successful opening within this year, as well as measures for regional win-win cooperation.
The National Fire Museum, built in Gwangmyeong-dong, Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do, was created with a total project cost of 46.1 billion won (43.1 billion won from the central government and 3 billion won from the local government). It sits on a site area of 14,049 square meters, with a total floor area of 4,772 square meters and three above-ground stories. It is planned as a space that will both preserve and exhibit the history and records of firefighting, and share experiences and lessons learned from overcoming disasters.
After completing the construction work, the National Fire Agency plans to begin installing interior exhibits from next month, then conduct a trial operation, and officially open the museum within this year. At present, a preparation task force for the opening is leading practical preparations, including securing artifacts, developing exhibition content, and creating educational and experiential programs.
Participants agreed to strengthen cooperation so that the museum can establish itself not just as a simple exhibition facility, but as a complex cultural space that combines educational, experiential, and cultural functions, thereby becoming a new attraction that contributes both to enhancing public safety awareness and revitalizing the local economy.
Assemblywoman Lim stressed, "The National Fire Museum will be a symbol of public safety and a new landmark for Gwangmyeong City," adding, "We will spare no support at the National Assembly level so that family visitors and young people will continue to come, invigorating local businesses and enabling Gwangmyeong to leap forward as a hub of national safety-culture tourism."
Acting Commissioner General Kim said, "The history of firefighting began in 1426 with the Geumhwadogam, and this year marks its 600th anniversary," adding, "We will enhance the level of completion until the very end so that the National Fire Museum can establish itself as a symbolic space embodying the identity of firefighting and the value of respect for life, as well as a complex cultural space that coexists with the local community."
