Kim Junhyung Piano Recital in Gangneung on April 1
The Gangwon Cultural Foundation (CEO Shin Hyunsang) has invited pianist Kim Junhyung to the 2026 Daegwallyeong Music Festival planned concert, “The Four Seasons of Gangwon: Spring,” and will hold his solo recital at 7:30 p.m. on April 1 at the Small Hall of the Gangneung Arts Center.
“The Four Seasons of Gangwon” is a flagship planned concert series of the Daegwallyeong Music Festival, which has received great love from Gangwon residents and classical music lovers by presenting diverse and distinctive classical programs.
Pianist Kim Junhyung, who will open the 2026 Daegwallyeong Music Festival planned concert series, drew international attention by proving his artistry through winning second prize in the piano category of the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, Germany in 2022, first prize at the Seoul International Music Competition, and prizes at the Sendai International Music Competition and the Aarhus International Piano Competition.
In 2024, he was selected as an Artist-in-Residence at Kumho Art Hall, where he presented highly artistic performances, and he has been invited to major European festivals such as the Bornholm Music Festival, the Schwarzwald Festival, and the Schwetzinger SWR Festival. He is also building a wide-ranging performance career through collaborations with leading orchestras in Korea and abroad, including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Cologne Gürzenich Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the Pohang City Symphony Orchestra.
For pianist Kim Junhyung, this recital will mark his first performance in the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. In this solo recital, he is scheduled to present a mature and profound performance through Bach’s “Partita No. 1 in B-flat major, BWV 825” and “Prelude No. 1 in C major, BWV 846,” as well as Schumann’s “Waldszenen (Forest Scenes), Op. 82” and “Fantasy in C major, Op. 17.”
Tickets for “The Four Seasons of Gangwon: Spring” go on sale from 2:00 p.m. on the 12th through the Daegwallyeong Music Festival website and NOL Ticket. Prices are 30,000 won for R seats and 20,000 won for S seats, with various discounts available, including a 50% discount (up to two tickets per person) for Gangwon residents, elementary, middle, high school and university students, people with disabilities, and national merit awardees. Meanwhile, the “Pyeongchang Daegwallyeong Music Festival,” one of Korea’s leading classical music festivals, will celebrate its 23rd edition this year. It will be held for 11 days from July 23 to August 2 under the theme “Legacy and Innovation” at venues in and around Alpensia in Pyeongchang and across the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.
