The Busan plant serves as a global strategic hub within the Renault Group, responsible for production of D/E segment (mid-size and semi-large) vehicles. To date, it has shipped approximately 2.2 million vehicles to the domestic market and about 1.8 million vehicles overseas, driving Renault Korea's growth.
By model, the mid-size sedan SM5 has been produced in the largest volume at 954,000 units, followed by 805,000 units of the SM3 and 585,000 units of the Nissan Rogue. The Busan plant also ranks at the top of the Renault Group's key quality control indicators, earning recognition for its competitiveness as a production base.
In particular, the Busan plant is equipped with a mixed production system capable of producing up to four platforms and eight models on a single line. In January last year, it upgraded its facilities and converted its internal combustion engine production line into a process that can also handle electric vehicle assembly. Through this, it has established a foundation for the simultaneous production of internal combustion engine vehicles, hybrids, and pure electric vehicles, including the Grand Koleos, Filante, and Polestar 4.
Renault Korea President Nicolas Parry said, "The driving force behind the production of 4 million vehicles is our quality competitiveness and the capabilities of our employees and executives," adding, "Based on our strong competitiveness, we will move toward achieving production of 5 million vehicles."
