By focusing on areas around schools and sections with heavy pedestrian traffic, it contributes to ensuring the safety of children and citizens.
The section selected this time is the school route around Yangjeong Elementary School. In cooperation with Korea Electric Power Corporation, the city will carry out administrative procedures such as signing agreements and designing the project starting this month. Construction is scheduled to begin in October this year, with the goal of completing the work by December 2027.
As the Green New Deal undergrounding project, which had been promoted with government support until 2025, is coming to an end, the Yangjeong Elementary School undergrounding project will be implemented with a total project cost of approximately 1.8 billion won, of which the city will bear 50% and Korea Electric Power Corporation and telecommunications companies will bear the remaining 50%.
Through the "Overhead Power Distribution Line Undergrounding Project," the city has so far carried out undergrounding projects in areas including Pyeongnae Elementary School in Pyeongnae-dong, Eoram Elementary School in Onam-eup, Jangseung Elementary School in Jinjeop-eup, Yebong Elementary School in Wabu-eup, Simseok Middle and High School and Gagok Elementary School in Hwado-eup, and the area around Toegyewon Elementary School in Toegyewon-eup. While ensuring that the projects currently underway proceed without setbacks, the city also plans to continue identifying safety-vulnerable areas and expand undergrounding projects.
