The briefing was held on the 9th at the county office’s second building, with about 10 participants including County Governor Seo Taewon, Vice Governor Kim Miseong, directors and department heads, and Jeon Cheol, Director of Peace Infrastructure Policy at Gyeonggi Province. They shared the overall direction of the project and detailed implementation plans.
The Korea Local Finance Institute, which has been commissioned to carry out the study, will over the next 12 months perform key tasks including: analyzing the conditions of Gapyeong County and internal and external environments; establishing strategies for building a peace economy foundation; conducting feasibility analysis and preparing detailed project implementation plans; and developing arguments and rationale to support the designation of the special zone.
The Peace Economic Special Zone is a national strategic project that, in preparation for potential inter-Korean cooperation, aims to build development bases in various sectors such as industry, tourism, and logistics, and to promote corporate investment and job creation through deregulation and policy support.
Leveraging its accessibility to the Seoul metropolitan area, natural environment, and growth potential as strengths, the county expects to serve as a hub that will drive economic revitalization in northeastern Gyeonggi Province once it is designated as a special zone. Accordingly, it plans to draw up an implementation plan in line with the central government’s schedule for promoting Peace Economic Special Zones and to build a foundation for sustainable regional development through the designation.
