Got a Taste of AI Before Enrollment... National Pukyong University and Pusan National University Hold AI/SW Freshman Creative Convergence Camp
"Designing the Future Beyond Academic Boundaries"
Joint National Universities Program, with About 80 Prospective Freshmen Participating
National Pukyong University and Pusan National University have begun providing AI and software (SW) education to prospective freshmen before enrollment.
The Software Convergence Innovation Institute at National Pukyong University, together with the AI Convergence Education Center at Pusan National University, held the "AI/SW Freshman Creative Convergence Camp for Prospective Freshmen" for this year's early admission successful applicants.
This camp was organized as part of the "SW-centered University Project" run by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation. From January 27 to 30, over four days, about 80 prospective freshmen from the two universities, regardless of their majors, received practice-oriented training designed to build digital literacy and computational thinking skills.
The program focused on strengthening AI utilization capabilities and creative problem-solving skills from the pre-enrollment stage, in response to environmental changes in which AI and software have become core competencies across all academic disciplines. It was a joint education program based on collaboration between national universities in the Busan region.
From the first day of the camp, for three days, participating students conducted step-by-step hands-on exercises in each university's laboratories using the no-code platform "Bubble," ranging from a basic understanding of generative AI to app architecture design, fundamental UI/UX principles, and integration of AI functions. The program was operated in a way that allowed students to directly experience the entire process of implementing an actual AI service.
On the final day, an AI app development hackathon based on inter-university team projects was held at the Elis Lab Busan Center. Students presented their team outcomes on themes such as "Preparing for the First Semester of University with AI," "Making the Local Community and Campus More Convenient," and "AI Services for People Like Me."
Song Hajoo, Director of the Software Convergence Innovation Institute at National Pukyong University, said, "I hope this will serve as an opportunity for prospective freshmen to gain AI/SW-based problem-solving experience even before entering university," adding, "We will expand collaboration among universities in the Busan area to help spread AI/SW capabilities throughout the local community."
