Daegu to Hire 771 Civil Servants This Year, Up 407 from Last Year
The Daegu Metropolitan Government has finalized its 2026 new civil servant recruitment quota at 771 positions and announced detailed examination plans on February 2, including the number of positions by rank, exam schedules, and changes to the examination system.
This year, Daegu will recruit 14 Grade 7 officers (5 in general administration, 9 in veterinary medicine), 743 Grade 8 and 9 officers (including general administration and facilities), and 14 research and guidance officers, totaling 771 positions across 26 job categories.
This represents an increase of 407 positions (up 112%) compared to the previous year. The expansion aims to prioritize citizen safety and livelihood stability by strengthening dedicated personnel for integrated care and disaster safety situation rooms. In addition, by recruiting regionally customized talent, the city expects to secure the driving force needed to prepare for a new future under the ninth popularly elected administration, ensuring the smooth implementation of key projects such as the Daegu-Gyeongbuk administrative integration and AI policy initiatives.
Moreover, this year’s recruitment is the largest in the past three years. As the 'Daegu local residency requirement' to protect local talent is reinstated, it is expected to significantly contribute to creating jobs for local youth. In 2025, 364 positions were filled; in 2024, 210; and in 2023, 422.
By job category, the recruitment numbers are as follows: 5 for Grade 7 administrative officers, 9 for Grade 7 veterinary officers, 28 for Grade 8 nursing officers, 305 for Grade 9 administrative officers, 72 for tax officers, 9 for IT officers, 108 for social welfare officers, 4 for librarian officers, 3 for stenographer officers, 54 for engineering officers, 3 for agricultural officers, 26 for green space officers, 10 for public health officers, 10 for medical technology officers, 15 for environmental officers, 64 for facility officers, 11 for disaster prevention and safety officers, 14 for broadcasting and telecommunications officers, 7 for driving officers, 2 for public health research officers, 10 for environmental research officers, and 2 for rural guidance officers.
The first written recruitment exam will be held on April 25 for three job categories, including environmental research officers. The second written exam will take place on June 20 for 20 job categories, including Grade 9 administrative officers. The third written exam is scheduled for October 31 for eight job categories, including Grade 7 administrative officers and technical high school graduates.
