Hanul & Jeju Launches High-Alcohol Beer "Barley Reserve" Co-Developed with Lotte Mart and Lotte Super
Hanul & Jeju announced on January 30 that it is expanding its product portfolio with the launch of its high-alcohol beer, "Barley Reserve."
Barley Reserve is a "Barleywine"-style beer characterized by high alcohol content and rich flavor. It features a wine-like high ABV and a full-bodied mouthfeel.
The alcohol content is 10.0%. Unlike regular lager beers, the carbonation has been carefully controlled to allow for slow sipping. The bitterness index is set at around 25 on the International Bitterness Units (IBU) scale, which helps to soften the strong bitterness typically associated with high-alcohol beers.
Barley Reserve primarily targets consumers who feel burdened by strong carbonation in beer or those who prefer a drinking experience similar to wine. The company explained that it also considered consumers who want to enjoy the flavor of high-alcohol beer but do not prefer overly bitter styles.
A Hanul & Jeju representative stated, "Barley Reserve is a new product introduced as part of Hanul & Jeju's strategy to expand its product portfolio," adding, "We have focused on balancing the demand for a premium drinking experience with the needs of the high-alcohol beer market."
The representative further emphasized, "We expect this product to broaden consumer choices in the high-alcohol beer market."
