Bucheon City Holds 'Environmental Education City' Plaque Unveiling Ceremony: "Practicing Environmental Stewardship in Everyday Life"
On January 9, Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province held an unveiling ceremony for the plaque designating it as an 'Environmental Education City' at the Fantastic Cube in City Hall.
An Environmental Education City is designated by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, which selects local governments with outstanding foundations, achievements, and future plans for environmental education in order to promote its activation. The designated local governments receive various administrative and financial support for environmental education revitalization through national and local funding for a period of three years.
Approximately 70 people attended the plaque unveiling ceremony, including Mayor Cho Yongik of Bucheon, members of the Bucheon City Council, the Bucheon Office of Education, and representatives from environmental education-related institutions and organizations. They celebrated the designation and shared the vision of an Environmental Education City. Through this event, the city shared the achievements of its community-based environmental education initiatives with citizens and widely promoted the significance of the designation.

In particular, Bucheon has developed an environmental education model that enables citizens to learn about and practice environmental stewardship in their daily lives. This has been achieved through initiatives such as integrating environmental education with cultural resources like libraries and films, producing and distributing ecological experience books for use in school classes, and establishing a regionally-based environmental education network. These efforts formed the foundation for Bucheon's designation as an Environmental Education City.
