Pork and Egg Discount Support... Agriculture Ministry: "Aimed at Stabilizing Livestock Product Prices at the Start of the Year"
Up to 30% Discount on Pork at Major Supermarkets
Support for Lowering Egg Supply Prices
The government is launching pork discounts and lowering egg supply prices at the beginning of the year to stabilize livestock product prices.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on January 9 that, using the Korea Pork Producers Association fund, it will offer discounts of up to 30% on popular pork cuts such as pork belly and shoulder at nine major supermarket chains nationwide, 1,000 supermarket branches, and Nonghyup Hanaro Mart locations.
For eggs, the ministry plans to encourage consumer price reductions by lowering the supply price through Nonghyup Distribution and Hanaro Distribution (providing a subsidy of 1,000 won per tray when extra-large eggs are supplied at 6,000 won or less per tray) until January 15, with a second round scheduled from January 22 to 29.
A ministry official stated, "The number of pigs slaughtered is currently increasing, and the number of laying hens and egg production are at similar levels to last year, so the supply of pork and eggs remains stable. As a preemptive measure to stabilize egg supply in case of additional outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI), we are planning a pilot import of 2.24 million fresh eggs from the United States during January."
The ministry also plans to hold discount events for Korean beef and pork next month to stabilize the supply of livestock products, and to import 7.12 million hatching eggs in preparation for the peak chicken consumption season (May to August) as a proactive supply stabilization measure.

We will continue to make ongoing efforts to manage the supply of livestock products and stabilize prices through various measures in the future."
