Halla Cement to Maintain Forests the Size of 300 Soccer Fields for 30 Years to Reduce Carbon Emissions
Certified as a "Forest Carbon Sink"
Halla Cement is cultivating a forest on a plot of woodland equivalent to the size of 300 soccer fields, offsetting the annual carbon dioxide emissions of 550 cars.
On December 23, Halla Cement announced that it recently obtained certification as a "forest carbon sink" by participating in a social contribution-type forest carbon offset project organized by the Korea Forest Service. A carbon sink refers to areas such as forests or oceans that absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and contribute to carbon neutrality.
Through this project, Halla Cement will maintain and manage 215 hectares of woodland-equivalent to 300 soccer fields-in Danyang County, North Chungcheong Province, as a forest carbon sink for 30 years until 2055. The expected annual carbon absorption is 1,327 tons, which is equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by approximately 550 passenger cars with 2,000cc engines over one year.
