Monthly Allowance Increased to 400,000 Won Starting Next January
Building a City that Honors National Merit Recipients
Guri City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyeon) announced on December 18 that it will raise the monthly Veterans Honor Allowance for national merit recipients from 300,000 won to 400,000 won starting in January next year. The amendment containing this increase was approved as originally proposed at the Guri City Council's extraordinary session on December 18, and is scheduled to be implemented and paid from January 2026.
The city has raised the monthly Veterans Honor Allowance to 400,000 won this year by adding another 100,000 won increase, following a 100,000 won increase last year, in order to improve the welfare and honor of national merit recipients and their bereaved families. In addition, the city has revised the ordinance to reflect changes in higher-level laws, reorganized the eligibility criteria for support, and expanded the scope of beneficiaries so that more veterans can receive benefits.
A Guri City official stated, "We expect that this increase in the allowance will provide tangible support for the livelihood stability of national merit recipients and their families," adding, "By expanding the eligibility, we will continue to establish an institutional foundation so that more veterans can receive equal recognition and support without discrimination."
