Eunpyeong District received the 'Excellence Award' in 2024 for the achievement of creating and managing attractive gardens through the 'Signature Gardens by Generation' relay event led by the first class of Eunpyeong's Village Gardeners. This year, the second class of Village Gardeners expanded the scope of garden creation and was awarded the 'Sprout Award.'
The second class of Eunpyeong Village Gardeners expanded attractive gardens throughout residential areas, promoting the creation of community-based gardens so that anyone in Eunpyeong District could encounter a garden within five minutes from anywhere.
Moving away from traditional flowerbed-centered gardens, attractive gardens were established in planters across all 16 neighborhoods in Eunpyeong District, making them easily accessible to residents in their everyday spaces. By incorporating a variety of seasonal colors, the gardens were designed to blend naturally into daily life.
To achieve this, each of the 16 neighborhoods was surveyed in advance, and factors such as resident usage, accessibility, and ease of maintenance were comprehensively reviewed. In particular, the district moved away from monotonous annual flower plantings and introduced mixed plantings using shrubs such as Spiraea and Miss Kim Lilac, as well as perennial flowers, allowing residents to enjoy seasonal changes up close in their daily environment. Plantings were tailored according to the shape and location of each planter.
