Army Sergeant Rice Takes Top Honors in Third Annual Evaluation
Dangjin Haenaru Rice and Asan Maelgeun Rice Also Recognized for Superior Quality
In the third annual evaluation of "Chungnam Excellent Brand Rice for Quality Control," conducted by South Chungcheong Province to strengthen the quality competitiveness of local branded rice, "Army Sergeant Rice" from Nonsan received the highest honor this year.
Army Sergeant Rice established itself as a leading local brand by earning consistently high scores across all categories, including appearance, composition, taste, and varietal purity.
The Provincial Agricultural Research and Extension Services announced on December 11 that "Army Sergeant Rice," the flagship brand of Nonsan, was selected as the grand prize winner in the third annual evaluation of Chungnam Excellent Brand Rice for Quality Control.
This evaluation is held annually to enhance the quality competitiveness of branded rice in the province and to secure consumer trust. Brands recommended by city and county agricultural technology centers were evaluated in three rounds in March, July, and November.
This year's award-winning brands are as follows: Grand Prize - Nonsan "Army Sergeant Rice"; Excellence Award - Dangjin "Haenaru Rice"; Merit Award - Asan "Maelgeun Rice."
The evaluation criteria included: appearance quality such as the ratio of perfect grains and chalky grains; component analysis of protein and moisture content; sensory evaluation of gloss, texture, and taste after cooking; and varietal purity analysis using DNA-based SNP markers.
