View original imageAt approximately 1:58 p.m. on December 11, a steel structure collapsed at the construction site of the "Gwangju Representative Library," which is being built on the site of the former Sangmu Incineration Plant in Chipeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju.
As a result of the accident, four workers at the construction site were buried under the collapsed structure.
Fire authorities who responded to the scene rescued one of the buried workers, but the individual is presumed dead.
Of the remaining three, the location of one has been visually identified, and rescue operations are underway. The locations of the other two have not yet been determined.
The accident reportedly occurred during the concrete pouring process, causing the building to collapse.
The fire department has issued Response Level 1, mobilizing all personnel from the local fire station and deploying special rescue teams to carry out rescue operations.
The Gwangju Representative Library was planned by the city of Gwangju to be built on the former Sangmu Incineration Plant site at a cost of 51.6 billion won, with a total floor area of 11,286 square meters, and two floors below ground and two above ground.
