300 Billion KRW Investment... Incorporating Advanced AI and Robotics Technologies
Construction to Begin in 2026, Completion Targeted for 2028
On December 11, SPC Group announced plans to invest 300 billion KRW to build a "Safe Smart New Factory" in Eumseong County, Chungcheongbuk-do.
The "Safe Smart New Factory" is an innovative production facility that prioritizes worker safety and incorporates advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), automated robots, and Internet of Things (IoT) sensors. The SPC Group’s "Change and Innovation Task Force," launched in July to drive management reform and improve organizational culture, recommended the construction of a new plant to strengthen industrial safety. This recommendation was accepted and promoted by the SPC Committee, the group’s executive council.
SPC Group has secured a 182,866-square-meter (approximately 55,300 pyeong) site within the Eumseong "Human Smart Valley" to establish an integrated production center that will manufacture a wide range of foods, including bread and confectionery. This site accounts for about 20% of the total industrial land in Human Smart Valley, making it the largest among all tenant companies. The facility will be 2.5 times larger than SPL, SPC Group’s flagship production site, and is expected to become the group’s largest factory upon completion. The project is anticipated to create around 1,000 jobs and invigorate the local economy by utilizing local companies and materials from Chungcheongbuk-do. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with completion targeted for 2028.
SPC Group plans to apply advanced smart technologies to the new factory to minimize risk factors and distribute production volume from existing plants to the new facility, thereby enhancing the overall safety of SPC Group’s production system. The company aims to have this factory designated as a "Lighthouse Factory," which serves as a benchmark for innovative smart factories. A Lighthouse Factory is recognized by the World Economic Forum (WEF, Davos Forum) and global consulting firm McKinsey each year as a model facility that leads innovation by adopting core technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, such as IoT and AI, much like a lighthouse guides ships with its light.
Hur Jinsoo, Vice Chairman of SPC Group, stated, "The construction of the Safe Smart Factory marks a pivotal turning point in realizing SPC Group’s commitment to change, innovation, and safety-centered management. We will build a factory equipped with the highest level of safety systems to earn the trust of employees, customers, and all stakeholders, and we will contribute to the development of the local community and grow together."
