Discovering the “Warmth of the Community” in a Hanok
Uiseong County Launches a New Model for Supporting Settlement of Foreign Families
The "Hanok Healing Camp," organized by Uiseong County (Governor Kim Jusu) for foreign families participating in the regional specialized visa program, was held as a one-night, two-day event at the Seonseonghyeon Cultural Complex in Andong from December 6 to 7.
This program, designed to support settlement through traditional cultural experiences, has been praised for strengthening practical connections between the local community and foreign residents.
A total of 35 people from 17 families who have successfully settled in Uiseong County through the regional specialized visa participated in this camp.
The participants stayed at the Hanok Experience Center in the Seonseonghyeon Cultural Complex and took part in programs reflecting the region’s unique characteristics, including a tour of the cultural complex, a visit to Yekki Village, a walk along the Scholar’s Trail, and a settlement support meeting.
In particular, the Hanok accommodation and traditional culture-focused schedule were found to be effective in enhancing foreign families’ understanding of Korean culture, while also fostering a sense of closeness to the local area.
On the first day, participants explored the cultural complex and nearby villages, immersing themselves in the Korean atmosphere. On the second day, a meeting was held to review the program’s achievements and discuss future directions for settlement support.
The Uiseong County Family Center plans to continue expanding support for foreign residents’ settlement and promote active exchanges based on the success of this program.
Kim Jusu, Governor of Uiseong County, stated, "Experiencing traditional culture has become a key factor in increasing settlement satisfaction," adding, "We will continue to enhance our programs so that foreign residents can grow together as members of the local community."
