In particular, to minimize damage from the cold wave, the province has significantly improved accessibility by newly designating convenience stores as shelters in addition to the existing senior centers and village halls, allowing residents to rest safely at nearby locations at any time.
The province has been operating in full-scale response mode to winter natural disasters since November 15, and from October 1, it carried out a preemptive preparation period focused on inspecting and newly designating cold wave shelters.
Governor Kim carefully checked whether signs indicating the cold wave shelter were installed in places easily visible to all residents, inspected the indoor temperature of the convenience store, and closely examined the situation on-site. He also met with delivery workers taking a break at the shelter to ensure there were no inconveniences.
Governor Kim Jintae stated, "Considering the cold in Gangwon Province, cold wave shelters are essential," and added, "Starting this year, we are using easily accessible convenience stores as cold wave shelters." He continued, "As more people are starting to use these shelters, I encourage everyone to make full use of the convenience store cold wave shelters."
