Hamyang County Launches Youth-Oriented Rural Migration Promotion Project
Urban Youth Bring Passion to Hamyang's Rural Migration and Farming Experience
Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province has established a crucial connection between urban youth and the local rural community through a rural migration and farming settlement promotion program targeting the younger generation.
From December 6 to 7, Hamyang County introduced 30 young participants from across the country to the county's agricultural environment and settlement conditions at the 'Youth Gathering Zip Rural Migration Experience and Promotion Program' held at the Byeolmunsunghanok Experience Center in Macheon-myeon. Through this program, participants were given the opportunity to imagine what life in a local area could be like.
During the program, the county explained Hamyang's agricultural structure and demographic trends, and provided guidance on rural migration support systems and youth policies. Through lectures, participants also learned about practical conditions they would face during the settlement process, such as housing, employment, startup support, and living infrastructure.

This event went beyond a simple visit, serving as a platform for young people to share their values and thoughts about the region. Throughout the program, participants engaged in discussions about daily life, work, and social networks with local youth and rural settlement officials, exploring the potential of living in a rural area.
One young participant commented, "I think Hamyang will come to mind whenever I feel troubled or face difficulties. Although it was a place I only just discovered, it no longer feels unfamiliar, and I want to visit often." Another participant added, "Learning that Hamyang County is actively pursuing rural migration policies, I will definitely consider Hamyang as my top choice if I plan to move to the countryside in the future."
The Hamyang Youth Network 'Iso,' which co-organized the event, stated, "When explaining rural migration to young people, this area must become a special rural community for them. We will continue to promote various exchanges and experiments to make Hamyang a region where young people come in search of happiness."
An official from the county remarked, "This program provided an opportunity for young people to concretely imagine life in a rural area. Moving forward, we will adopt the expansion of relationship-based populations and the attraction of young people as part of our mid- to long-term strategy, and will continue to strengthen tailored support for youth rural migration and settlement."
