During the National Assembly’s budget review process, Assemblyman Yang worked closely with Chairman Han Byungdo to secure an additional 3.5 billion won for relocation expenses, which had not been included in the government’s original proposal. Through these efforts, the foundation was laid for the resumption of the ammunition depot relocation, a long-standing wish of residents in the Gwangju region, especially those in Seo-gu.
Assemblyman Yang stated, "The relocation of the Mareuk-dong ammunition depot has been a key issue for Seo-gu in Gwangju and a fervent demand of its residents. I would like to express my deepest gratitude, along with the local residents, to Chairman Han Byungdo for playing a major role in making the resumption of this project possible."
He added, "Now that the biggest hurdle of securing the budget has been overcome, I expect the project will move forward in earnest next year following a review of the design."
Chairman Han responded, "This letter of appreciation should not go to me, but to Assemblyman Yang Bunam. Since this summer, Assemblyman Yang has repeatedly and emphatically stressed the need for the Mareuk-dong ammunition depot relocation every time we met, and our joint efforts with members of the National Defense Committee, the Budget and Accounts Committee, and officials from the Ministry of Economy and Finance have finally borne fruit."
He further stated, "Assemblyman Yang Bunam’s earnest determination to resolve Gwangju’s long-standing challenge was clearly conveyed to the relevant ministries and financial authorities. I am very pleased that this will contribute to creating a safer living environment for Seo-gu residents and to the development of the region."
