"Amendment Expected to Provide Stable Foundation for Priority Parking Spaces for Persons of Distinguished Service to the State"
Jeong Heeyong, a member of the People Power Party (Goryeong County, Seongju County, Chilgok County, National Assembly Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food and Maritime Affairs Committee), sponsored a partial amendment to the Act on the Honorable Treatment and Support of Persons of Distinguished Service to the State (hereinafter referred to as the “Amendment to the Distinguished Service Act”) on November 27, which mandates that the state and local governments install and operate priority parking spaces for persons of distinguished service to the state in order to promote their livelihood stability and welfare.

However, there have been ongoing concerns about significant regional disparities and the lack of unified standards, which has limited the expansion of the system.
The core of the amendment proposed by Assemblyman Jeong is to clearly stipulate in the law that the state and local governments must install and operate priority parking spaces for persons of distinguished service to the state in government offices and public facilities. In addition, the amendment establishes grounds for providing national subsidies to facilities that offer such priority parking spaces.
