Buan County Completes 'Alleyway Landscape Maintenance Project'
Creating Walkable Village Roads
Buan County in North Jeolla Province has successfully completed the alleyway landscape maintenance project, which was promoted as part of the Hyanggok District urban regeneration project.
According to the county on December 9, the purpose of this maintenance was to improve deteriorated walls and narrow, aging alleyways in the Seowoe-ri area, creating safer and more walkable village roads.

Old walls and structures that had previously detracted from the area’s appearance were demolished, rebuilt, or repainted, resulting in a cleaner look. Pavement that had cracks and subsidence was newly resurfaced, significantly improving pedestrian safety.
This project enhanced effectiveness by incorporating residents’ feedback into the design and focusing on on-site construction. During the maintenance process, both safety and visual harmony were considered, achieving a balanced improvement in both the village’s image and the pedestrian environment.
In particular, in some sections, residents themselves proposed and actively participated in the plan to rebuild existing walls by setting them back about 15 to 20 centimeters. As a result, alleys that previously could not accommodate vehicles can now allow vehicle access, greatly improving convenience for residents.
Sections of alleyways that were previously narrow or had poor visibility were reorganized with clearer pathways, leading to high satisfaction among residents. Even after construction is completed, the county plans to establish a continuous management system linked to the Hyanggok District urban regeneration project to ensure that improvements to the living environment are maintained in the long term.
Additionally, the renovated alleyways are expected to contribute to revitalizing the local community and improving the quality of the village landscape, making this project one of the key achievements of the Hyanggok District urban regeneration initiative.
