Hosting Local Festivals, Small Performances, and Gardening Events
Chuncheon City, Gangwon Province (Mayor Yuk Donghan), has completed the construction of the Seoksa-dong Living Garden project, which was promoted to bring gardens closer to citizens' daily lives, and will open it to the public on December 12.
The Living Garden, located at 130-6 Seoksa-dong, covers a total area of 6,940 square meters and features a variety of themed gardens, including the Stay Garden, the Long Yard Garden, and the Natural Ecology Garden. A rich array of herbaceous plants and shrubs has been planted so that visitors can enjoy vibrant seasonal flowers blooming from spring after winter. Additionally, old bridges have been replaced to improve safety and convenience for visitors.
The garden's internal pathways and rest areas have been renovated, transforming it into an urban green space where residents can enjoy walking, relaxing, or holding small gatherings in various ways.
Furthermore, the Living Garden is expected to serve as a central space for local community activities.
Chuncheon City plans to foster the sustainable management and active use of the Living Garden by organizing local events such as village festivals and flea markets hosted by the Seoksa-dong and Dongnae-myeon Residents’ Autonomy Councils, holding small-scale concerts and cultural performances in collaboration with the Chuncheon Cultural Foundation, and running seasonal gardening events with citizen gardeners.
