Dongducheon Cultural Center Launches Under New Leadership of 18th Director Mira Lee

The inauguration ceremony for the 17th and 18th directors of the Dongducheon Cultural Center, marking a new beginning for the center in Gyeonggi Province, was held with great success at the Lifelong Learning Center performance hall on Saturday, November 28. The event was attended by Dongducheon Mayor Park Hyungdeok, City Council Chairman Kim Seungho, members of the city and provincial councils, as well as officials from the Gyeonggi Provincial Association of Cultural Centers, including Kim Yonggyu, President of the Goyang Cultural Center, and other related figures, adding significance to the occasion.

View original imageOutgoing director Jeong Kyungcheol served as the 15th, 16th, and 17th director from May 2016 to October 2025, dedicating a total of 9 years and 5 months to the development of culture in Dongducheon.
During the farewell ceremony, expressions of deep gratitude were conveyed through the presentation of plaques of appreciation from the Mayor of Dongducheon and the Chairman of the Dongducheon City Council, as well as a merit citation from the President of the Korean Federation of Cultural Centers, a plaque of merit from the President of the Gyeonggi Provincial Association of Cultural Centers, and a plaque of appreciation from the Dongducheon Cultural Family.
Mira Lee, who received the cultural center flag from former director Jeong Kyungcheol, will lead the Dongducheon Cultural Center as its 18th director for a four-year term from November 2025 to October 2029.
In her inaugural address, Mira Lee expressed her ambition, stating, "I will pursue innovative changes so that culture can deeply permeate the daily lives of citizens, inheriting the history and traditions of Dongducheon."
In his congratulatory remarks, Mayor Park Hyungdeok said, "On behalf of the citizens, I extend my deepest gratitude and respect to former director Jeong Kyungcheol, who has laid a strong foundation for the development of Dongducheon’s culture over the past 9 years and 5 months. Your dedication will be remembered in the cultural history of Dongducheon."
He continued, "I am confident that Director Mira Lee, with her leadership and insight, will lead new growth and innovation in Dongducheon’s culture. Dongducheon City will work closely with the cultural center to do our utmost to enhance citizens’ happiness through arts and culture," he added in his congratulatory message.

At the end of the event, a letter of appointment ceremony was held for the 8th executive team (including five deputy directors and three board members), who will lead the future development of the Dongducheon Cultural Center under the leadership of Mira Lee, signaling a new leap forward for the center.
