Jeongeup City Selected for Ministry of Culture's "Accessible Tourist Destination Development Project"
Three Sites Selected, Including Naejangsan National Leisure Camping Site and Donghak Peasant Revolution Memorial Park
Jeongeup City in North Jeolla Province has been selected for the second consecutive year for the "2026 Accessible Tourist Destination Development Project," organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
According to the city on December 8, the "Accessible Tourist Destination Development Project" focuses on improving the physical environment of tourist sites-such as walkways, ramps, and level differences-to eliminate inconveniences related to mobility.
Furthermore, the project aims to develop customized experiential content so that all visitors, regardless of disability type, can fully enjoy their travels.
In this year's selection, a total of three sites were chosen: Baekjegayo Jeongeupsa Cultural Park, Naejangsan National Leisure Camping Site, and Donghak Peasant Revolution Memorial Park. The city secured 750 million won in national funding. This has laid a solid foundation for enhancing both the accessibility and inclusiveness of tourism in Jeongeup.
Jeongeup is a city with high educational value, boasting abundant historical and cultural resources such as Baekjegayo Jeongeupsa and the Donghak Peasant Revolution, centered around the scenic beauty of Naejangsan Mountain. As a result, the city has consistently attracted family visitors and elderly tourists, and there has been an ongoing call for the creation of a tourism environment that everyone can use without inconvenience.
In response to this demand, the city has continuously promoted barrier-free tourism policies. As a result, last year, Gujeolcho Provincial Garden and Naejangsan National Park were selected, and with this year's consecutive selection, Jeongeup's commitment has been recognized with this significant achievement.
Going forward, the city plans to conduct on-site consultations with experts to renovate walkways and significantly improve convenience and rest facilities at the selected tourist sites. Through these efforts, Jeongeup aims to drastically enhance the convenience and accessibility for people with mobility challenges.
Additionally, the city will develop experiential programs tailored to different age groups and visitor types, highlighting the unique characteristics of each tourist site, to provide visitors with a richer and more diverse array of activities.
