Led by the Gyeonggi-do Saemaul Association, the ceremony aimed to reaffirm the responsibility and commitment to overcoming the climate crisis, to expand these efforts beyond residents to a nationwide movement, and to share the future value of the Saemaul Movement in building a prosperous community for all.
In particular, the event was held in conjunction with the "2025 Gyeonggi-do Saemaul Leaders Conference," filling the venue with more than 1,000 Saemaul leaders from across the province. Participants declared the Gyeonggi-do Saemaul Association's commitment to climate action both domestically and internationally through the "2035 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Performance," and officially announced strategies for greenhouse gas reduction and achieving carbon neutrality.
In his declaration speech, Lee Hokyung, President of the Gyeonggi-do Saemaul Association, stated, "The Saemaul Movement began practicing carbon neutrality 55 years ago through forest greening campaigns and more," and added, "I ask all Saemaul families to once again unite their passion for climate energy activities, such as resource circulation and green village development, which the Gyeonggi-do Saemaul Association has been promoting."
In his welcoming address, Park Hyungdeok, Mayor of Dongducheon City, emphasized, "Climate change is a critical issue directly linked to human survival and a global challenge that requires a variety of efforts, from individual actions and community cooperation to national policies."
