Student-Led Debate Culture Expected to Grow
Sangmyung University announced on December 8 that it held the '2025 Academic Year 2nd Semester Sangmyung Debate Competition' at the Miraebaeknyeon Hall of the Seoul Campus on November 28.

View original imageThe Sangmyung Debate Competition was organized to enhance students' logical and critical thinking skills, as well as their communication abilities. The topic of the competition was 'The government should strengthen regulations on generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology.'
The competition was conducted in the format of a Cross-Examination Debate Association (CEDA) debate. Participants alternated between the affirmative and negative positions in each round.
A total of eight teams advanced to the finals after a preliminary review. The evaluation was based on four criteria: constructive speech, cross-examination, rebuttal, and adherence to rules and debate attitude.
As a result of the judging, the following teams received awards: Grand Prize - Change (Kim Naeun, Department of Food and Nutrition; Choi Minseo, Department of Global Business), Excellence Award - Sophist (Kim Gunho, Department of Korean Language Education; Won Gyobin), Merit Award - AIrny (Hong Minji, Department of Convergence Management; Kim Yejin, Department of History Content), and Ujam (Lee Jaemin, Department of Computer Science; Kim Yurim, School of Business Administration).
