Sister Booked for Murder of Brother Who Defected Together... Husband Found Dead Days Later
Woman in Her 50s Booked for Murder of Younger Brother
Strongly Denies All Charges
A woman in her 50s is under police investigation on suspicion of causing the death of her younger brother, who defected from North Korea with her. Based on the results of a drug test and an autopsy report, the police have charged Ms. A as a suspect for murder.
The Busan Gijang Police Station announced on December 4 that they have booked Ms. A, a woman in her 50s, on charges including murder and are currently investigating her. Ms. A is suspected of causing the death of Mr. B, a man in his 40s, at her home in Gijang-gun, Busan, on August 29. According to the police, Ms. A and Mr. B are siblings who defected from North Korea together about 10 years ago.
At the time of the incident, Ms. A stated, "When I returned home after going out, my brother was unresponsive." The police, who had been investigating people around the victim as suspects, recently booked Ms. A as a suspect. The initial autopsy found that Mr. B died of asphyxiation due to neck compression, and it was reported that the same sleeping pill ingredient that Ms. A had been taking was detected in Mr. B's drug test, which accelerated the investigation.
Ms. A is said to be strongly denying the charges, stating, "I have no reason to kill my brother, who defected with me." A few days after Mr. B's death, Ms. A's husband was also found dead in his car, leaving behind a suicide note.
