On December 4, Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced that, based on an analysis of the "2026 Budget Bill" passed at the National Assembly plenary session on December 2, it has secured 20.8923 trillion won in national funds.
This amount is 1.7511 trillion won (9.1%) higher than this year's 19.1412 trillion won, surpassing the 20 trillion won mark for the first time in history.
Looking at the details of the national funding, the welfare sector-which supports low-income residents and socially disadvantaged groups-saw the largest increase, with its budget rising by 1.617 trillion won compared to the previous year.
National funding for major routes such as railways and metropolitan transportation also increased significantly, including 46.8 billion won for the Dobongsan-Okjeong metropolitan railway, 466.3 billion won for the Indeokwon-Dongtan double-track railway, 235 billion won for the Shinansan Line double-track railway, and 313.1 billion won for the Gyeyang-Ganghwa expressway.
Additional items reflected in the budget include 9.8 billion won for the installation of incineration facilities in preparation for the implementation of the direct landfill ban-an item for which Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dongyeon has continuously requested increased national funding-13.8 billion won for the quasi-public operation of metropolitan buses, 1 billion won to support the Ansan Sewol Ferry Memorial Facility, 150 million won for the purchase of medical equipment for the Ansan Mental Health Center, 1 billion won for projects to improve areas at risk of natural disasters, 600 million won for operating special transportation for mobility-impaired individuals, and 900 million won for design costs for candidate sites for national fishing ports.
In particular, an additional 50 billion won was secured for the construction of a joint utility tunnel at the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster general industrial complex, laying the foundation for the advancement of the semiconductor industry.
The eco-friendly agricultural products package project for pregnant women, which was proactively proposed by Gyeonggi Province, was included in the National Assembly’s review, securing a project budget of 15.8 billion won nationwide and expanding the program across the country.
Previously, Governor Kim Dongyeon visited Han Byungdo, Chair of the National Assembly Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, last month to explain the necessity and urgency of Gyeonggi’s key projects and request national funding support.
