This event clearly demonstrated the direction in which Korea Expressway Corporation will pursue its digital transformation in the future.
A total of 42 entries were submitted for this year's AI·Digital Innovation Awards, and the final winners were selected through external expert evaluations and employee voting.
The Grand Prize-winning entry, 'Automatic Digital Entrance Information Retrieval,' is a technology that automatically links exit lane information to process tolls correctly when Hi-Pass entrance records are missing. By resolving 97% of unpaid tolls caused by entrance information errors, it has significantly reduced customer inconvenience and administrative costs.
Two entries were selected for the Excellence Award. The 'AI-based Road Damage Automatic Detection System' is a technology in which AI automatically detects road damage during high-speed travel, improving inspection efficiency by 80% and enhancing on-site safety.
Another award-winning entry, the 'Integrated Bridge Maintenance Solution,' integrates the management of bridge damage, diagnosis, and treatment based on AI, thereby increasing the precision and speed of structural maintenance.
Meanwhile, the generative AI 'RoADI,' unveiled for the first time on this day, is a name that combines the meanings of Road, AI, and Digital. Korea Expressway Corporation plans to evolve RoADI step by step into a 'road traffic-specialized AI agent,' increasing its utilization across all processes, including road design, maintenance, and traffic operations.
The corporation also plans to apply RoADI to its website and electronic procurement system, greatly improving the efficiency of information search and document analysis.
President Ham Jingyu emphasized, "AI is a catalyst for innovation, but it must never become a technology that surpasses human values," adding, "Based on the AI Ethics Charter, we will build a safe and trustworthy AI ecosystem and strengthen the accountability of public institutions."
