This agreement establishes a foundation for comprehensive cooperation in renewable energy and power grid sectors and aims to identify practical collaborative projects between the two countries.
Naju City announced on December 3 that it had signed the memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the new energy industry with the Ministry of Economy and Commerce during the "Korea-Central Asia Energy Week 2025" event, which took place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on December 2 (local time).
During the opening ceremony, Kang Sanggu, Deputy Mayor of Naju City, stated, "South Jeolla Province, Naju City, and Korea Electric Power Corporation have expanded the foundation for the new energy industry by establishing the Energy Valley and promoting the spread of renewable energy. Based on this experience, we will work together with Kyrgyzstan, which is pursuing abundant hydropower resources and renewable energy transition policies, to build a sustainable energy ecosystem."
He further emphasized, "There is ample opportunity for South Jeolla energy companies to provide technological cooperation in the modernization of transmission and distribution networks, reduction of power losses, and expansion of distributed generation."
The agreement includes practical, business-oriented cooperation measures such as "identifying joint projects in renewable energy, low-carbon technologies, and smart energy sectors," "networking and technology exchange between Korean and Kyrgyz companies and research institutions," and "supporting startups and promoting joint forums and workshops."
The Energy Valley Enterprise Development Institute will oversee the detailed planning and operation of projects for implementing the agreement.
Naju City also plans to provide various support measures, including connecting with participating companies, analyzing local policies, and facilitating working-level discussions between governments and institutions.
During the event period, which runs until December 6, policy and technology seminars, intergovernmental e-commerce consultations, and on-site inspections will be held, with concrete models for Central Asian market entry by South Jeolla energy companies expected to be actively explored.
