The Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education has once again proven its status as a leading city in information education, with four out of the ten recipients of the 2025 Korea Information Education Award being teachers from Daejeon-the highest number from any region nationwide.
The Korea Information Education Award, established by the Ministry of Education in 2021, is presented annually to teachers who have contributed to the advancement of information education. The award aims to foster pride among information teachers and promote the substantive development of information education by recognizing outstanding cases and spreading best practices.
Recipients are selected through a comprehensive evaluation of achievements in four areas: improvement of information classes, student guidance in information-related fields, research activities in information education, and dissemination and generalization of information education outcomes. The Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education has produced award winners for five consecutive years.
Kang Sinjo, Teacher at Daejeon Moksang Elementary School, led the spread of elementary information education through a variety of hands-on classes, including AI and digital-based integrated lessons, VR and AR making, and robot production.
Park Jungmi, Teacher at Daejeon Physical Education Middle School, systematized student-tailored, process-oriented information classes and fostered an information education culture through various programs such as AI and software education weeks, clubs, and camps for underprivileged students.
Shin Yosep, Teacher at Daejeon Science High School, operated Java, AI, and software project courses at Meister and science high schools, simultaneously guiding students to win national competitions and engaging in research and practice in information education.
Hyunju Lee, Teacher at Daejeon Jungang High School, enhanced students' creativity and problem-solving skills through project-based classes such as data analysis and AI robot and drone coding, and worked on developing information education materials and promoting their broader adoption.
