With next year's local elections approaching, the Jeonnam Provincial Party Committee of the Party for National Innovation is accelerating its organizational restructuring by filling the previously vacant position of provincial party chairman and forming local committees.

View original imageOn December 2, the Jeonnam Provincial Party Committee of the Party for National Innovation announced that Woongdu Park has taken office as Acting Chairman. Park graduated from Chonnam National University with a degree in agriculture and participated in the farmers' movement in Gokseong. He previously served as an aide to Assemblyman Kang Ki-gap of the Democratic Labor Party and as Chief of Staff to the party leader. In August of last year, Park ran unsuccessfully as the Party for National Innovation's candidate in the Gokseong county by-election and has since served as the head of the Gokseong-Gurye regional committee.
Park will lead the provincial party until the party convention in July next year. Since electing its first basic local government head in the Damyang county by-election earlier this year, the Party for National Innovation has announced its intention to field candidates in every constituency in next year's local elections. To this end, the party has already established nine regional committees, including Mokpo, Yeosu, Suncheon, Gwangyang, and Naju-Hwasun, and plans to set up committees in the remaining areas while simultaneously forming election campaign committees and recruiting new talent.

Park stated, "We confirmed our growth potential in the Gokseong and Yeonggwang county by-elections and elected our first local government head in Damyang. I will responsibly lead the provincial party to meet the expectations of the residents who desire political innovation."
