Seongdong District Appoints First 'Labor Director' Among Seoul's Autonomous Districts
First Introduction of a System to Guarantee Worker Participation in Public Institution Management
Seongdong District in Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced on December 2 that, for the first time among Seoul's autonomous districts, it appointed a 'labor director' to the Seongdong District Urban Management Corporation on December 1 to guarantee worker participation in the management of its affiliated public institutions.

In March, the district established the legal basis for introducing this system by enacting the 'Ordinance on the Operation of the Labor Director System in Seongdong District, Seoul.' Subsequently, the Seongdong District Urban Management Corporation revised its articles of association and internal regulations, and after an open recruitment process, a vote by employees, and a review by the executive recommendation committee, the final candidate was nominated.
The appointed labor director, as both the workers' representative and a non-executive director of the public institution, will participate in the corporation's board of directors and exercise voting rights on overall management matters. This is expected to reflect the voices from the field and foster a culture of labor-management relations centered on coexistence and cooperation through smooth communication between labor and management.
