Jeongeup City Offers Up to 3 Million Won in Medical Expense Support for "High-Risk Pregnant Women"
Creating a Safe Childbirth Environment and Reducing Financial Burden
The Jeongeup City Public Health Center in North Jeolla Province is providing up to 3 million won in medical expense support for pregnant women experiencing economic and psychological difficulties due to high-risk pregnancies, covering the costs necessary for appropriate treatment and care.
According to the health center on December 1, this "High-Risk Pregnancy Medical Expense Support Program" was launched to help ensure healthy deliveries for high-risk pregnant women and to alleviate the financial burden on households.
The program is available to pregnant women who have been diagnosed with one of 19 high-risk pregnancy conditions, such as preterm labor, diabetes, or cervical incompetence, and have been hospitalized for treatment. The support covers 90% of out-of-pocket expenses and non-insured medical costs, which can be a significant burden for families. However, certain items, such as higher-grade hospital room fees or special patient meals, are excluded.
The maximum support per person is 3 million won. Even if a woman meets the criteria for two or more high-risk pregnancy conditions simultaneously, the support limit remains the same and is provided only once after delivery.
Applicants must apply in person at the health center or online through the "e-Health Center" website within six months of giving birth.
This proactive policy by the city is resulting in an increasing number of beneficiaries. Last year, 22 mothers received support, and as of November this year, the number has risen to 24, indicating a steady increase in the number of pregnant women receiving assistance.
The health center plans to continue the program, believing it significantly helps relieve the financial difficulties faced by families due to high-risk pregnancies and contributes to creating a safe childbirth environment.
In addition, the city offers various customized welfare services, including support for medical expenses for premature and congenitally abnormal infants, screening and management of congenital metabolic disorders, and newborn hearing screening and hearing aid support programs.
