[Today's New Release] Diageo Unveils 'Special Release 2025'... "Experimental Cask Combinations"
Eight Limited Edition Whiskies Introduced Under the "Horizons Unbound" Theme
Diageo Korea is launching a limited edition collection, "Special Release 2025," featuring eight types of whisky.
Since 2001, Diageo has released a limited edition "Special Release" each year. Produced in limited quantities, the Special Release series is characterized by experimental cask combinations and unique flavors that have not been attempted in existing products. This year's Special Release is themed "Horizons Unbound," reflecting the intention to redefine the possibilities of whisky and expand the boundaries of tradition through creative experimentation.
This collection includes: "The Singleton Glen Ord 17 Years," matured in Mexican mezcal casks and sherry casks; "Talisker 14 Years," finished in American oak casks toasted with volcanic rock; "Lagavulin 12 Years," matured in European oak casks seasoned with Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso; "Oban 12 Years," matured in bourbon casks for a sweet profile; "Dalwhinnie 21 Years," aged for 21 years in Spanish ex-sherry casks; "Roseisle 14 Years," matured in refill and rejuvenated casks and suitable as an aperitif; "Clynelish 18 Years," matured with the addition of a 'pineapple cut'; and "Teaninich 8 Years," distilled from a blend of malted rye and barley and matured in ex-bourbon casks.
The most experimental product in this collection is "The Singleton Glen Ord 17 Years." This whisky uniquely combines spirit finished in mezcal casks with whisky matured in second-fill Spanish sherry casks. It delivers a fresh whisky experience, blending the subtle fruit notes characteristic of The Singleton with the herbal flavors of mezcal, offering something never experienced before.
Talisker, renowned for its peated whisky, introduces the special "Talisker 14 Years." This whisky combines spirit finished in American oak casks toasted with volcanic rock from the Isle of Skye, where the distillery is located, with whisky matured in bourbon casks. As a result, Talisker successfully brings together the rugged maritime flavors and smooth sweetness in a single whisky.
This year's collection also includes rare spirits that were previously difficult to obtain. The most notable is "Dalwhinnie 21 Years." Most of the spirit produced at the Dalwhinnie Distillery is used for blending in Johnnie Walker, making it hard to enjoy as a single malt. For this Special Release, Dalwhinnie selected spirit aged for 21 years in Spanish ex-sherry casks, presenting a captivating whisky that finishes with a gentle spiciness after delivering sweet dried fruit and baked apple flavors.
