Gyeonggi Province Begins 4.75km Bupyeongcheon Maintenance in Yeoju to Mitigate Flood Risk
A Total Investment of 17.6 Billion Won to Greatly Strengthen Flood Defense
Creating a Safe River Environment
Project Aimed for Completion in November 2028
Gyeonggi Province will launch the "Yeoju Bupyeongcheon Local River Maintenance Project" to strengthen Bupyeongcheon Stream's flood response capabilities in Yeoju City.
Bupyeongcheon Stream is a local river flowing through Gangcheon-myeon in Yeoju City. It joins the Seomgang River and is ultimately discharged into the Namhangang River. The upper reaches of the stream are relatively steep, resulting in repeated flooding of nearby farmland during heavy rainfall. In the lower reaches, the risk of backflow flooding has been raised due to rising water levels in the Namhangang River, highlighting the need for maintenance.
The maintenance project will cover a total length of 4.75 kilometers and includes 3.4 kilometers of embankment construction and the installation of eight bridges.
The total project cost is 17.6 billion won, consisting of 13 billion won for construction, 3 billion won for compensation, 900 million won for supervision, and 700 million won for design and other expenses. The construction is scheduled to be completed by November 2028.
The Bupyeongcheon maintenance project completed its detailed design in 2022 and has since been proceeding with compensation procedures.
Kang Seongsup, Director of the Construction Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through this maintenance project, the risk of flooding in Bupyeongcheon during heavy rainfall will be greatly reduced, contributing to the safety and quality of life of local residents. We will work closely with Yeoju City and the local community to ensure smooth progress of the project."
