Seo-gu District in Gwangju Metropolitan City has been selected as the 'Best Institution' for three consecutive years in the '2025 Intensive Safety Inspection Autonomous District Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

View original imageAccording to Seo-gu District on the 27th, this evaluation was finalized through a comprehensive analysis based on 24 evaluation indicators across 14 areas, including the effectiveness of safety inspections, the level of interest shown by the head of the institution, and on-site evaluations.
From April to June, Seo-gu District conducted safety inspections at 94 locations, including construction sites and aging or hazardous infrastructure, over a period of 61 days. The inspections were carried out in cooperation with the district office, the Western Fire Station, the National Land Safety Management Agency, and private sector experts.
In particular, Seo-gu District received high marks for several initiatives: operating the 'Safety Eosa-dae', a safety inspection team directly under the district mayor; implementing a resident application system for intensive safety inspections; utilizing specialized equipment such as insulation resistance testers; encouraging the participation of private sector experts to realize open safety administration; demonstrating the interest and commitment of the head of the institution; and establishing a system for follow-up actions and reporting.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu District, stated, "The value of Seo-gu as a kind city is realized within an urban culture where citizens' safety is guaranteed," adding, "We will work together with residents to build a seamless safety net and implement people-first safety administration."

Meanwhile, the Intensive Safety Inspection is a nationwide disaster prevention policy in which the public and private sectors jointly inspect the overall state of safety management in society. Seo-gu District was also selected as an outstanding autonomous district in 2023 and 2024.
